Hello everyone!
It's been quite a while since I last updated this journal. As you may see from the deviations update, we are still alive and very active! We spend a lot of time at the Medieval Village of Turin, Italy, where we are home-based, by doing guided tours through the castle once every month. As the number of watchers is turning out to rapidly increase, here is a short presentation of our researches and activities! I'm sorry this is ITA only; basically, we explain a few things about the 3 periods we reconstruct, which are:
  • First half of XI century (1000-1050);
  • Third quarter of XIII century (1250-1275);
  • First two decades of XV century (1400-1420).
For all periods we tend to stick to the geographic area we live (Piedmont, Italy), for a couple of reasons: to enhance the history and the culture of our living area, and to be as precise as possible with our reconstruction.
For other questions, just ask! :ahoy:

Hey there!
I've been less than present writing the journal but I always try to keep up with some uptates with new pictures!
As you may have seen by our recent uploads, this September we organized a big event we decided to call "End of Summer Fair", in collaboration with Medieval Village at Turin. We invited lots of reenactment groups from all Italy for a total of around 80 reenactors, to recreate what may have been a city fair in the first decades of XV century, in the Piedmont area. The fair was a success in terms of public and we certainly hope to renew this appointment for the next year!
For more but less good pictures please check our facebook page here:…
We are almost at the end of our reenactment year and just a couple of events awaits us: on next Sunday we will be again at the Medieval Village in Turin, while in December there will be the two last event of the "Arduino the DVD" series, one of which will be held at the Archaeology Museum of Turin and the other one at the San Giorgio Canavese's Castle:…
Let's keep up with the good work!

Hello everybody! We will soon be presenting "Arduino: the documentary" our feature project at Turin's International Book Salon held from 14 to 18th of May (website here:, meanwhile I would like to ask you a quick question.

Would anybody be interested in following our facebook page? Should we be turning it bilingual, since now it's only written in Italian? :ahoy:

Meanwhile we invite everybody to take a look at it! :D…

Hello folks! I'm sorry I've not been much active during the last months but our association has great news: for the upcoming reenacting year there are tons of events of the three historical periods (XI, XIII and XV century) we will both organize and attend. As for the XV century our monthly appointment at the Medieval Village in Turin is confirmed: every first Sunday of the month we will be there giving the castle visitors a quite unique inside view of a 1420's Savoy court. For XIII century we will mostly attend events organized by groups of the Italian assembly for XIII century called Mille&Duecento that we're part of (website here: www.coordinamentomilleduecento…) and for XI century there is a giant news!

We have been asked by Masterblack Studio's film-maker Andry Verga to take part in a docufiction about Arduino of Ivrea (955-1015) the first King of Italy in occasion of the millennial recurrence of his death. The documentary will feature interviews with historian professors of University of Turin; the filming is still in progress. It will be released on DVD and available for sale starting from June 2015 in the most important archaelogy museums and castles in the Piedmont Area. We are very proud we have been given the chance to be part of this project and hope everything will turn out great! I'll be posting some backstage picture in the next weeks!

Cheers :ahoy:

Ciao a tutti!

Saluti! :ahoy:

Our annual season of reenactions ended just last Sunday, with another meeting at the Medieval Village: this is year we
started a very nice collaboration witch we will almost surely continue next year. It has been a though year, hardened by rain, tons of researches to adjust to a new historical period (1400-1420 in Piedmont area), and the hurry to sew and prepare new clothes and stuff.

During the winter break I will take the chance to add some old pictures that I forgot to, update with new stuff, and maybe open a new fold artisan craft-related to collect and show the things we create, like clothes, accessories. It may be quite interesting to share our work with you guys!

Meanwhile, thanks to everyone who faved our pictures, watched our page (you're almost 500!), and gave us encouragements and positive criticism! We will be back in March 2014 ready as ever :ahoy:

:ahoy:

Hello everybody! First of all thank you all very much as I always see a lot of favourites and comments to the new deviations, and I'm more than happy to answer the questions. Unfortunately I'm quite busy with my university degree so Ii'm trying to keep up with everything :)
Then, it's not Vittorio speaking, but me :iconmarivel87: as he is even more busy than me with his law degree, so I'm updating with pictures when I have a chance and I hope he will have time to get back managing the page in the autumn.
As you saw from most of the new pictures, our association have started a new recontruction project: this time with the first 20 years of XIV century (about from 1400 to 1420), we were asked to do that by the Turin medieval village management, as now in the first sundays of every month we have an event there, and do living history guided tours inside the rooms of the castle! It's quite hard because we basically had to redo from scratch all clothes, and we're not even halfway to being acceptable for what concerns historical accuracy, but we're improving something every month!

Also, we're starting to plan our event that will take place in September at Rocca, as usual (this is the fourth year and we're very proud of it!), it will be set in X century, but we still have a lot to do!
We unfortunately had to cancel our presence to lots of events this spring, because of the bad weater.. Hope it gets better with summer!

So what about you? Are there any interesting events around in Europe? What are you up to?
Cheers! :D

Ciao a tutti!

Ciao a tutti! :D

Hello everybody! We are looking for suggestion about how to improve this page! We usually try to be creative about the new deviations, and try to cover every aspect of out reenaction activity, so we upload a lot of different stuff.
It there anything you want to see more?

* Everyday life
* Portraits
* People with landscapes
* Tutorials (we can also think about doing some tutorials, but what would you like to see?)

Hello everyone!

Like every year, Taranto was a tiring trip so much as it is satisfying (13 hours by car :nirvana:), but next year we are planning to change the destination ..

Do you have any suggestions?

We are looking for a re-enactment that has the following characteristics:

- XI or XIII century (no Viking)
- Europe, preferably reasonably close to Italy (south of France, Bavaria, etc.) but it's not essential.
- Great attention to historical accuracy!
- Relatively large and generally cool.

For now our only idea is Hastings, if you have proposals, shout'em out! :D

Ciao a tutti!

- XI o XIII secolo (no vichingo)

Greetings folks!

This past weekend we participated in a multi-period event, organized by the friends of the historical group "Genti del Maloch", where we showed off our thirteenth century infantry in a small battle, pics coming soon ;)

But the best is yet to come: 19 and May 20 will be held in Taranto the sixth edition of "The Battle of the eleventh century between Byzantines and Normans," reconstruction and historical research event, organized by De Rebus Gestis.
The event, besides the great battle, will present the national gathering of eleventh century historical groups, fighting tournament, camp and medieval market.
The battle in which will participate more than 200 fighters, re-enacts the battle of Durazzo and the deeds of Bohemond of Taranto in occasion of the nine hundred years of his death.

Once again this year we expect a significant crossing of Italy, to give support to Norman army..  This year we are better equipped, better armed, and far more bad :rage:

Well, here we are :eager:

Last week, made a new photo shoot, and we are awaiting the results from the photographer. From what little I managed to peek in, it looks promising! :la:
Meanwhile, I see that you liked "Northern Fall", an old photo that (somehow) had escaped from DA for over a year .. However, as you have noticed along with the photo there is a brief description of the carachter represented and the equipment that we have rebuilt. I hope you enjoy this idea, I think I shall adopt it for all the pictures from here to come! And not only, in group pics there will be little stories that  Osprey Publishing fans will appreciate! :w00t:

See you soon! :ahoy:

P. S. I apologize if the translation is not perfect, google translator is not that great and often some mistake escapes from my fixes.

A presto! :ahoy:

Hi folks!

Castrum Roccae was officially our last re-enactment of a very satisfactory year! :hooray:
In 2011 a lot of things have happened .. The entry in "Mille&Duecento", the XIII century coordination; the odyssey to Taranto; the second place in the Historical Groups National Competition; and, last but not last, the first reenaction organized entirely by us, which proved to be a success! :eager:

For the occasion, we also formalized the creation of the "Patto Arduinico" ("Arduinic Pact"), a coordination which aims to bring together all piedmont re-enactors interested in the XI century, related in particular to the period of the reign of King Arduin!
For now, the group members are Speculum Historiae (obviously), La Motta and Rievocand Fruttuaria, but this is just the beginning..  Our domain will soon be complete and unchallenged, muahahaha! :evillaugh:

Megalomania aside, thank you all for joining us in this annual journey through time, as we hope you enjoyed! :D

Obviously there's more, I still have lots of Castrum Roccae pics to submit, we will do at least one winter photo session, we'll keep on going to the Medieval Village and the new year will arrive soon with new challenges and objectives including ... The Battle of Hastings! :wow:

See you soon .. "Sans Despartir"! :ahoy:

:wow:

Quindi a presto.. "Sans Despartir"! :ahoy:

WOOOOOOOHOOO!!!! :headbang:

Remember my last journal, that little thing aboout the "Historical Groups National Competition" of Sparone?

Well, looks like we had the second best camp of all the participants, this means a lot of satisfaction for us and a juicy €1000 prize!! I think it's really a great thing: seems that all our works of researching, sewing, training and keep improving ourself bear fruits

We're thinking to use the money prize for a giant tend and some cool fornitures for always keep improving our camp.. Now our goal is to come first next year :strong:

Well, let's talk about reenactions:

The next one, the last one and I think the most important of the year will be on September 9, 10 and 11 10 in Rocca Canavese: "Castrum Roccae, A.D. 1000",  the first reenaction integrally organized and managed by Speculum Historiae :D

With our friends of the histrical groups "Rievocando Fruttuaria" and "La Motta", we'll make an experiment of pure living history, with the reenaction of the building site of Count Emeric's Castle; we'll have masons, the architect, soldiers and, of course, Emeric and all his retinue :)

Well, that's all. Remember that every month we keep on going to the Medieval Village of Torino, so maybe I'll post some nice XIII century pics too ;)

On 9 and 10 July Speculum Historiae will participate to the "Historical Groups National Competition" in Sparone!

This year theme is the camp: the group with the most accurate and philologically correct camp will win a juicy €2000 prize, the second one a €1000 prize and the third one a €500 prize.. Not bad at all!

Competition aside, Sparone (organized by that bunch of lunatics of historical group La Motta :D) is an excellent opportunity to take a vacation in a really beautiful location and take good pictures!

So,  let the victory be ours!

We had a great time and we hope to go back next year!
Our group photographers took a ton of pics :XD:
I'll surely post the best ones in the next days, I hope you'll appreciate ;)

EDIT Check it out, the group "I Cavalieri de li Terre Tarantine" made a video of the battle, so you can give it a much better look!…

So, let's turn over a new leaf: on June 19 and 25 we'll be at San Benigno Canavese for the 20th edition of a reenaction event organized by our friends of the group Rievocando Fruttuaria.
The reenaction will focus on the history of the Fruttuaria Abbey, a very important XI century benedectine centre, founded by Guglielmo da Volpiano on 1003 and used as refuge by King Arduin in his last years.

Go check the website of the group ;)

On 28th and 29th of May, Norman and Byzantine armies will clash in the re-enaction of an huge battle that took place in Taranto (southern Italy) in 1067..

And we'll be there to support the Norman army in this epic conflict, of course

It promises to be a really big event, with more than 200 re-enactors from all Italy!
